Chot Wins Second Straight A Boys Title; Dahl Edges Schutz

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Liem Chot, a junior from Lincoln North Star, a preseason DyeStat Top 100 runner, won his second consecutive NSAA Class A cross country title at Kearney Country Club on Friday.

Chot ran a season's best time of 15:50.3. It was about 18 seconds faster than his winning time last year.

Senior Tyler Boyle from Lincoln Southwest ran 15:54.7 for second place and led his team to the championship with 67 points.

Perhaps the most exciting race of the day came in the Class A girls race where Elli Dahl from Fremont edged out freshman Berlyn Schutz from Lincoln East, 18:35.6 to 18:36.0. Schutz's team backed her up and Lincoln East posted a winning score of 39 points to Fremont's 59 -- the same order of finish as 2018.

Tukker Romey, Shailee Patton and Madison Seiler went 2-3-4 on the way to lifting Gering to the Class B girls team title. Chelsey Espinosa of Hastings ran 19:33.3 to win the individual medalist honors.

Omaha Skutt Catholic retained the boys title with 27 points.

Freshman Carson Noecker of Hartington-Newcastle won the Class C boys race by 13 seconds in 16:03.0. Aurora pulled out the team title with 43 points, beating Malcom (51), Sidney (60) and Mitchell (71).

Sophomore Danie Parriott from Conestoga won the girls race in 19:40.5. Third-place finisher Jordan Stopak led Boone Central to the team title.

Junior Payton Davis of Aquinas Catholic won the Class D boys race in 16:54.0. Runner-up Lincoln Trent led Axtell to the team title, pairing with Jaron Bergstrom for two of the top four spots.

Freshman Alayna Vargas of St. Cecilia won the girls race by 32 seconds, clocking 19:15.6. Defending champ Rylee Rice was second but she helped Ainsworth retain the girls team title.
